Sound Fishing

SOUND FISHING is an artscience project exploring the underwater acoustic environment at the mouth of the Isonzo River, where river and sea meet.

Far from being silent, underwater environments are filled with sounds produced by animals, water and geological processes, alongside an increasing presence of anthropogenic noise.

Using microphones, hydrophones and contact microphones, including custom-built devices, the project collected sounds along the river mouth in an almost utopian search for an acoustic environment uncontaminated by human activity.

The resulting audio and video recordings became the material for an immersive quadriphonic audiovisual performance: an electro-organic underwater live experience built from the sounds encountered during the research.
